If five productive workers move into a town (move in = + 5), and each worker brings growth to the town, more income, more shopping, etc. of $20 (+growth of $20 = $+ 20) then the town is better off than before by $100. + 5 times + 20 = $100

If 8 productive workers move OUT of town (move out = - 8), then the town actually has less value than before by $160. (less value means - $160)

On the other hand, if three unproductive persons move into town (move in = + 3), and each person actually costs the town $20 (costs the town = - $20) then the town is $60 of less value than before (+ 3 times - $20 = - $60).

And finally, if four unproductive workers move out of the town (move out = - 4), and the unproductive workers cost the town $20 each (- $20) then the town is actually BETTER OFF than before by $80 (- 4 times - $20 equals $80)
